The goal is to take on serious issues with a touch of humor to explain & offer possible solutions through the actions of the characters in each story.

Files contains names, aliases, modes of operation, how to avoid the STD Gang and special information about what to do if you think you may have. First printing 1987.

HIV Safe Coloring Book

Learning how HIV is not spread is the best way to stay safe; is the theme of this coloring book featuring the What Are Friends For ? crew as they offer illustrated examples of what HIV/AIDS isn't & how everyday activities are not the way it is spread. Created for youger readers with phonetic spelling of terms.

Gwahn gets his family involved with the community recycling program by showing how their trash can be traded in for money. This coloring activity book takes you through the steps of preparing and separating cans, bottle & paper for collection. Originally developed for the Recycle & Profit program (RAP) for the Chicago Housing Authority. First printing 1991.

This one is not part of the What Are Friends For ? (luckily for me), but decided to mention it anyway. Originally developed as a child's reader for the African American AIDS Network's Break the Silence campaign. Now that ownership of the book has been gained back from the Chicago Department of Health who sponsored the printing of it (& where it never saw daylight), plans are to reprint so the public can actually see it. First printing 1993
