Brent is a comic strip I created in late 1978 & later redeveloped
in 1981. This is the version available here. The feature revolves around
Brent's interaction & relationships with friends, neighbors, co-workers
& society in general through his ongoing quest for the ideal career.
Although situations don't always happen as expected, Brent's high expectations
& optimism somehow manage to keep him going.
Brent begins with his decision to leave home in Ohio, to his search for an apartment in Chicago & employment to stay there. Brent strips attempt to explore the humorous side of everyday life in an urban setting with an emphasis on society's attitudes & perceptions. Click the following titles to view selected strips.
Family K624 is a comic strip spin
off from my original social awareness comic book called "What Are
Friends For ?" (See CLS Books)
Originally created in 1975 while I was in High School, this version of the
cartoon focuses primarily on the lives of only one family consisting of
Bookworm, his sister Gari and their relationship with their
parents who are working professionals. The situation revolves around the
housekeeping responsibilities of the siblings, who are more interested in
following in parental career oriented footsteps and just being teens.
This cartoon has also appeared under the title of "What Are Friends For ?" & "The Kirklands".
FAQ: What is the meaning of the title,
Family K624 ?
When I began researching my family
'roots' (genealogy) there is an indexing system called Soundex that
simplifies family names into one letter & 3 numbers. You need to code
the names into soundex in order to look them up. My maternal Grandmother's
maiden name is Kirkland. I chose this name for my comic strip family.
Therefore, KIRKLAND becomes K624. This also symbolizes how
the American family has become little more to this nation than a series
of code words & faceless numbers.-TLJ
